Sam’s off in the States at the moment, and he left Carlos and I in charge of London 2.0. Predictably, nothing has happened.

But the sheer weight of nagging email has done the trick, so, Tuesday the 31st, everybody? The venue is the Old Bank Of England as per the recent poll, and I’m inviting the Python boys along too. See you there!

As usual, demos are welcome, so bring your new toys.

It’s that time again - after the success of March, what better than an April meet-up?

No fixed topic (as usual) so just a general chat about Web 2.0 technologies in the relaxed atmosphere of a Pub in central London next door to where Sweeny Todd used to butcher people.

Demos are welcome - so bring along your latest gadget/tool/service or whatever, although don’t expect any Wifi!

As usual, signup on Upcoming, and stay tuned to the calendar or this blog for updates.

Update 1: Sorry for the late change - but due to a clash I’ve had to reschedule to Thursday 15th of March

Update 2: The venue is now confirmed as the Old Bank Of England

OK - I thought getting filmed by someone from Microsoft last year was as surreal an experience as I could expect from London 2.0, but I think a plug on Wired News which I came across in Gmail takes the biscuit:

Londoners’ calendars are once again full of networking events, parties and meetups.

The setting is traditionally a London pub and, in the case of events like Beers & Innovations, appropriate liquid lubrication is on tap.

No damn plug for the blog though - or me! I suppose Sam Sethi is a bit higher profile.

Anyway, after a not so brief hiatus, the next event will be on Wednesday March the 14th Thursday 15th of March. Details up as usual on the calendar and Upcoming. Venue tbcThe venue will be the Old Bank Of England, but please comment or update upcoming if you’re attending. QCon will be in town at the same time, so we may have a few gatecrashers…

This month’s agenda - is Europe more risk-averse than the US? And does this inhibit the number of European startups?

New Year, New Venue?

At last night’s higly successful BBC Backstage Bash, I was bemoaning my ability to get off my bum and organise a more suitable venue for our meetings next year. With that in mind, I thought a new poll was due:

Should we keep the Olde Bank of England as our official venue?

Mailing lists are up

You spoke - well, voted - and I listened, so I’ve created two mailing lists over at Google Groups. london-20-events is a reminder/announcement service for forthcoming London 2.0 events (for those who don’t like the iCal feed). london-20-community is for the fun things in life - mainly talking about technology, jobs and startups in London, gossip, and in a pinch beer. All the information on how to subscribe can be found on the mailing lists page.

I want this site to act primarily as a site for the London 2.0 meet-ups, but also as a support network for the tech community in London. To further this, I’ve been thinking about a few things I can add, but rather than decide myself I thought I’d ask you lot. Please cast your vote and help shape the website.

What should we add next to the website?

London 2.0 Xmas Party

To celebrate the London 2.0 meet-up’s first chirstmas, we’ll be freeloading off joining the BBC Backstage and other communities for a Cuban-themed evening. The event will be held at The Cuban near Moorgate on Saturday December the 9th. There are more details over at the BBC Backstage Blog. If yoyu want to come along, please make sure you sign up - there is a strict limit on places.

Thanks must go to Ian Forrester for organising everything, and the following sponsors:

  • TechCrunch UK
  • Skills Matter
  • Trusted Places
  • Chinwag
  • BBC
  • O’Reilly

Please note, it is highly likely we’ll be having our own event in December if people want it!

This website will become the main place to find out about the London 2.0 events. It is also going to become a proper support network for those people interested in Web 2.0 and associated technologies. What we add to the site will be down to what you want - ideas include:

  • Forums
  • Jobs board (I get requests for people both looking for work, and looking for workers)
  • Start-up listings in the UK

Well, you get the idea - feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think
